EV-DO? EV-DV, how about just making something that works?

Qualcomm announced that it is shelving its EV-DV technology because there is really almost no interest from the CDMA providers. EV-DV was suppose to be a new standard that could support speeds of 3Mbps on CDMA2000 networks. However, those networks are not really in place yet and even EV-DO is slow to gain acceptance and use.

Personally I wish that all these telecom companies would stop trying so hard to develop new technologies and just make a good network that works well. Increase coverage, less drop calls, better building penetration and data speeds would not be as important. Very few people need to have 3Mbps on the cell network, but give me a good solid 100-150Kbps connection and I will be a happy man.
