Alltel Begins EV-DO Rollout

Alltel today launched CDMA EV-DO high speed wireless data service in three cities. Subscribers in Tampa, Florida and Cleveland and Akron, Ohio will be able to get unlimited high speed data on their laptops for $70 a month. Similar service from other carriers costs about $80. The PC Card modem required to access the service will cost $160 with a two year contract or $220 with a one year agreement. The carrier has not yet announced plans for expanding the high speed network or offering the service on handsets.
